Halloween night can involve lots of running "amok, amok, amok" for some people—and a lot of repeat watches of "Hocus Pocus" for others.
If you're part of the former, sharing your location with friends or family can make it easier to find them at a Halloween party, especially if they’re in costume. It can also help you keep a watchful eye on your kids as they’re prowling the streets trick-or-treating. Sharing your location is easier than choosing which kind of candy to hand out, and it doesn’t matter if you’re using an Android or iPhone.
Watch this video to see how easy it can be to share your location with your friends and family.
How do you share your location on iPhone
If you’re an iPhone user trying to share your location with another iPhone user, the easiest way to do this is in Messages. Open the text conversation with the person you want to share your location with, tap the + sign next to the text input box then tap Location. A little map will appear with the Share option. Once you tap that, the recipient will have your location. This also works in group chats with iPhone users.
When you go to share your location, you'll have three options for how long to do so: indefinitely, until the end of the day or for an hour. Choose the one that works best for you.
If someone has shared their location with you, the quickest way to find it is to open your Messages conversation with them. The city and state they're currently in will show underneath their name. Tapping on their picture will also show you their exact location.
If you have multiple friends sharing their location with you, an easy way to locate all of them is in the Find My app.
How can you share a location between iPhone and Android
One of the easiest ways to share a location between Android and iPhone devices is with Google Maps.
To share a location on Google Maps, tap on your icon in the right corner of the search bar then tap Location sharing. Tap Share location, set the duration of the share and then select the person or persons you want to share it with.
When you share your location on Google Maps, it also shares:
- Your name and photo.
- Your phone’s battery status.
Another option to share between devices would be to share a pin. This does not update your location as you move, so this is best if you’re trying to share an address. This works when trying to share your location from an iPhone with a non-Apple device. To send a pinned location, tap the + next to the text input box and tap Location. It will default to a pin for non-iPhones.
